Is Reprogramming of the DSG Really Needed?

Absolutely! Proper DSG reprogramming is essential to unlock the full potential of your vehicle while ensuring long-term reliability. The DSG gearbox and engine communicate through 8 CAN-BUS channels, making their synchronization critical for optimal performance. At DMA Performance, we strongly recommend purchasing engine software and DSG software as a package to ensure seamless integration and maximize results.

Without proper DSG reprogramming, several issues can arise:

Clutch Slip: Even if not initially noticeable, clutch slip can worsen over time (typically 6-24 months), especially around 2000 RPM when the turbo engages.

Torque Limitation: The DSG measures actual torque and receives signals from the engine ECU. If the torque exceeds 350Nm, the DSG reduces engine power to protect the gearbox. Disabling these safety features through engine ECU modifications can lead to significant gearbox or clutch damage.

Rough Shifting: Incorrect shifting behaviour often occurs, especially under full throttle, due to parameters designed for lower torque levels.

Slower Launch Control: The DSG struggles to manage increased torque, affecting launch precision and overall performance.

To maintain the integrity of your gearbox, avoid clutch wear, and ensure long-term performance, it is critical to use proper DSG software instead of disabling safety features.

The main goal to reactivate the first gear is to reduce clutch slip resulting in less heat generation and clutch wear. For wet clutch applications shifting sooner to second gear might solve drivability issues. TVS always uses the best strategy for every application!

Clutch cooling is improved by increasing the oil flow. This will reduce the possibility of clutch overheating and material deformation.

IMPROVED THERMOMANAGEMENT

Improved thermomanagement will ensure that the transmission is always operating in the correct temperature range and warns the driver in case the DSG reaches critical temperatures.

TORQUE LIMITERS RAISED

Torque limiters need to be raised to utilize maximum potential performance of tuned engines. This also ensures the TCU can operate correctly at higher torque levels and calculations are not limited.

INCREASED MAXIMUM CLUTCH PRESSURE

Within normal operation range and under steady conditions, clutch oil pressures can be assumed proportional to clutch torque handlings. So to handle more torque, more pressure is needed!
